Tired Of Just Winging It

A Rochester, NY landmark since 1978, Jeremiah’s Tavern® offers great food and friendly service in a warm, inviting environment. Whether you’re grabbing a cold one with colleagues after a hard day’s work or taking the family out for a special dinner, this well-known local food and beverage staple is guaranteed to ensure a memorable experience.

THE BACK STORY

With four different locations in Monroe County, all with costly heating, cooling, refrigeration, and general utility demands, the owners of Jeremiah’s eventually grew tired of market fluctuations and their inability to properly budget for energy expenses. They turned to Marathon Energy for guidance and a long-term strategy that accounts for usage and allows for budgeting—a rare combination these days.

LOWER UTILITY COSTS CAN RAISE YOUR SPIRITS

As is the case with all clients, Jeremiah’s personal Marathon Energy Advisor began with a thorough audit of their usage patterns and dollars spent monthly/yearly on gas and electricity. What started as a seasonal fixed price plan to cover the winter spike eventually evolved into a long term fixed plan meant to overcome market volatility and support financial forecasting based on historical models and consistent monitoring of usage at each of the four restaurant locations.

ENERGY ADVISING, MADE TO ORDER

At Marathon Energy, we realize one size does not fit all. That would be like assuming everyone in a restaurant is ordering the same thing. We’re also not a drive-thru kind of company. Meaning, we prefer to stick around, for the long haul, ensuring our energy strategies align with client needs and goals, through constant monitoring and regular meetings. This allows businesses like Jeremiah’s to focus on its core business and increasing profits at the same time.

Powering Empowerment

Incorporated in 1968, PEACE, Inc. is a non-profit community-based organization with the mission of helping people realize their potential for becoming self-sufficient.

THE BACK STORY

PEACE, Inc. believes in the strength of the human spirit and is dedicated to changing lives by teaching people how to help themselves and support those around them. For over 50 years, they have worked tirelessly to provide a continuum of critical services for the entire family, from infants to the elderly. The majority of individuals they serve have incomes placing them at or below the Federal Poverty Guidelines.

MORE ON ENERGY, LESS ON PROGRAMS AND PEOPLE

Profits can be even more critical in the non-profit sector. Sadly, PEACE, Inc. was being served by the local utility for its natural gas and electricity, going back decades. They’d been using valuable dollars to overspend on energy needs, rather than investing money and resources in the most undeniably vital community programs and people. Fortunately, that’s all behind them now.

MORE PROGRAMS AND RESOURCES FOR COMMUNITIES, THANKS TO MARATHON ENERGY

After a full analysis of the historical energy usage and spend, a Marathon Energy Advisor developed a balanced fixed energy plan for PEACE, Inc. that locked in both electricity and natural gas supply costs.

Like many organizations, we’re constantly exploring ways to reduce internal costs and increase our impact on others. Our Marathon Energy Advisor blew my mind. I really had no idea how much money we could save by changing providers or by bundling and fixing energy expenses.” – Kathleen O’Brien, CFO

Unconventional Solutions

Mid-Hudson Civic Center is an outstanding not-for-profit community organization dedicated to providing cultural, recreational and educational opportunities in the area. It is comprised of well recognized venues like the Majed J. Nesheiwat Convention Center, McCann Ice Arena and Ice Time Sports Complex.

THE BACK STORY

The Mid-Hudson Civic Center was getting their electricity and natural gas service from another energy supplier. Unbeknownst to new management, the energy accounts were neglected and auto-renewed without a direct strategy in place. Fortunately, with ongoing support from their local Marathon Energy Advisor, they identified energy goals, customized fixed pricing strategies, and budget certainty, which facilitated accurate forecasting and better protection of their bottom line.

WE’RE TEAM PLAYERS, TIME AND TIME AGAIN

After a full analysis of the historical energy usage and spend, Marathon Energy proposed a fixed price option for The Mid-Hudson Civic Center to lock in their electricity and natural gas supply costs for a period that covered more than a year of high energy use seasons. Not only did this allow them to more accurately predict their future energy spend come budget time, but the pricing that Marathon Energy offered was much lower than their former supplier and substantially below the average utility price for electricity and natural gas.

MARATHON ENERGY IS KEEPING SCORE

Marathon Energy is more than an energy company, as we pride ourselves on supporting and partnering with our customers. We truly believe in the power of supporting the local communities we serve and partnering with our neighbors.

After much discussion during the Fall of 2019, Marathon Energy and The Mid-Hudson Civic Center have partnered to bring new digital scoreboards to the McCann Ice Arena as part of the Civic Center’s renovation initiatives.

Energizing Breweries

The historic Mill House features three floors and more than 200 seats in 5,000 square feet of completely renovated space, including both an upscale restaurant and an on-site brewpub. The team also has an 8,000 square foot off-site brewing facility a few blocks away where most of the brewing, canning, and distribution takes place.

THE BACK STORY

Mill House Brewing is run by Brewmaster  Jamie Bishop, who has led MHBC to become a major player in the explosive craft beer scene coming out of the Hudson Valley, striving for the perfect balance of art and science.

LACK OF PRICE CERTAINTY, NOT BY CHOICE

Mill House was using default electricity and natural gas service from the local utility company. The lack of price certainty and control was “not the kind of roller coaster we like to ride. But at the time, we didn’t even know we had a choice.” With the utility price changing drastically every month— in some cases increasing as much as 50%— it became increasingly difficult for the Mill House team to anticipate and plan for consistent energy costs.

POSITIVE ENERGY ON TAP, THANKS TO MARATHON ENERGY

After a full analysis of the historical energy usage and spend, a Marathon Energy Advisor developed a holistic fixed energy plan for Mill House that locked in both electricity and natural gas supply costs.

“If you don’t have a Marathon Personal Energy Advisor, you’re totally missing out on the chance to think strategically about your past, present, and future energy use, as well as the opportunity to fix your overall spend—then you can finally stop sweating energy costs and get back to business, literally.” – Jamie

Energizing Hospitality

The first Mirbeau Inn & Spa opened in the year 2000 and was inspired in part by the soft light, warm colors and introspective character found in the paintings of renowned French Impressionist, Claude Monet.

THE BACK STORY

In the mid 1990’s, Linda and Gary Dower noticed that most American hotels had very little to do with “hospitality,” and were simply convenient and predictable places for travelers to sleep at night as they passed through. So, the couple decided to create an unrivaled get-a-way destination that afforded people like themselves a place to experience a truly unique escape.

OVERPAYING FOR ENERGY IS NOT RELAXING AT ALL

Mirbeau Inn & Spa was overpaying the local utility for their electricity and natural gas. After working to establish trust and integrity, their Marathon Energy Advisor ultimately lead a discovery focused on their pain points, helping to analyze the amount of natural gas being used in their kitchens and laundry operations, as well as the electrical implications of seasonal temperature variations and subsequent market fluctuations.

LEAVE THE LIGHT ON FOR YOUR MARATHON ENERGY ADVISOR.

After many in-person meetings and a comprehensive look at their energy usage, a Marathon Energy Advisor developed a plan for Mirbeau that supported budget stability and predictability.

“As much as we appreciate colorful impressionistic works of art, being able to look at our energy costs in a very black and white manner has allowed us to make thoughtful choices about how we spend and budget. We’re grateful to the Marathon Energy team for helping to paint an entirely new picture.” – Gary Dower, Founder
