South Jersey Gas recently received authorization from the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (NJBPU) to spend $81.3 million over the next three years in order to expand their energy efficiency offerings. The primary goal of these programs is to help customers reduce their energy costs and carbon footprints via innovative energy efficiency solutions. One such program offers residential customers a subsidized home energy assessment for just $49 that includes the installation of cost and energy efficient equipment such as LED lights, low-flow water devices, and smart power strips. Personalized energy efficiency recommendations for additional savings will also be provided. Building off this, another program for low to moderate income customers will offer a free energy audit and weatherization services that will include the free installation of insulation as well as air and duct sealing. Several online software offerings will also be made available, including energy audits and energy efficiency guides. For commercial and industrial customers, customized energy efficiency solutions and financial assistance for larger scale efficiency projects will be provided to facilitate positive changes. Since South Jersey Gas first gained authorization for energy efficiency initiatives from the NJBPU in 2009, over 15,000 customers have taken advantage of rebate and loan programs. If fully utilized, these new programs could reduce carbon dioxide emissions by more than 790,000 tons.
